SYMPTOMS

When you start a Microsoft Office 2000 program for the first time, the Windows Installer starts and then unexpectedly prompts you for the Office installation source.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Custom Installation Wizard has been used to reconfigure the transform file to omit the installation of the Symantec Fax Start Edition component. As a result, the following files are not copied to your hard disk:

OLFDNT40.DLL

OLFUNT40.DLL

OLFAXDRV.FAD

When you start an Office program for the first time, Office attempts to reinstall these files and auto-repair the Office installation.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, start all of the Office 2000 programs once to complete the installation before you use SysPrep.exe to create the installation image.

MORE INFORMATION

It is highly recommended that you use the Copy To command in Microsoft Windows 2000 to copy the Administrator profile to the Default User profile. This will ensure that all new users who are created receive the Office programs without difficulty.
