The USN Journal Log File Is Not Processed Completely During a Mount Operation

SYMPTOMS

If the NTFS file system processes the Update Sequence Number (USN) journal during a mount process and the current log file is full, Windows does not discard the log and force a remount. On each attempt, fewer USN journal records are processed until the process cannot be run.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
