SYMPTOMS

When you close any of the products listed in the "Applies to" section, you may receive an illegal operation message. If you click Details, you may receive one of the following additional error messages:

PIP caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll.

-or-

MSMONEY caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if either of the following conditions is true:

• Norton Antivirus 2001 software is installed on your computer, and you have installed the latest update (dated March 6, 2001). This latest update installs a script blocking component that prevents the programs listed at the beginning of this article from shutting down correctly.
• The Script Blocking feature is enabled in your installation of Norton Antivirus 2001.

This behavior has been fixed in the latest version of Norton Antivirus. To install the update, run LiveUpdate, download the program update, and then restart the computer when you receive the prompt. If the behavior still occurs, continue to the following section.

Disable Script Blocking in Your Version of Norton Antivirus

To disable Script Blocking, use the method appropriate for your version of Norton Antivirus.

Note Disabling Script Blocking reduces the coverage of your antivirus software. Microsoft suggests that you perform these steps only when you are running one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, and re-enable Script Blocking when you are done using the product.

Norton Antivirus 2001 included with Norton SystemWorks 2001

1. Click Start, and then click Norton SystemWorks.
2. Click Options, and then select Norton Antivirus.
3. On the left side, under System, select Script Blocking.
4. On the right side, click to clear the Enable Script Blocking check box.
5. Click OK.
6. Quit Norton SystemWorks.

Norton Antivirus 2001 (Stand-alone Version)

1. Start Norton Antivirus, and then click Options.
2. On the left side, under System, select Script Blocking.
3. On the right side, click to clear the Enable Script Blocking check box.
4. Click OK.
5. Quit Norton Antivirus.

If the preceding steps do not work, use one of the following methods, as appropriate to your installation.

Enable Script Blocking for Your Version of Norton

Norton Antivirus 2001 included with Norton SystemWorks 2001

1. Click Start, and then click Norton SystemWorks.
2. Click Options, and then click Norton Antivirus.
3. On the left side, under System, select Script Blocking.
4. On the right side, click to select the Enable Script Blocking check box.
5. Click OK.
6. Quit Norton SystemWorks.

Norton Antivirus (Stand-alone Version)

1. Start Norton Antivirus.
2. On the left side, under System, click to select Script Blocking.
3. On the right side, click to select the Enable Script Blocking check box.
4. Click OK.
5. Exit Norton Antivirus.

Quit Norton Antivirus

Quit Norton Antivirus, and then follow the steps to Disable Script Blocking in the first section.
