SYMPTOMS
Your attempt to import the Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) from the Trusted sites, Restricted sites, and Local intranet security zones is unsuccessful. (With Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) Profile Manager or IEAK Wizard, you can import the security settings from your computer.)
CAUSE
This problem can occur if you enable the Use Only machine settings for security zones policy setting on your IEAK-based computer.
If you insert or delete URLs in the Modify Settings dialog box of the Profile Manager, these values are written to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry key where they are also used by Internet Explorer. The importation process reads only the settings from the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry key which have not changed, and then converts them to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry key in the generated Seczones.inf file.
RESOLUTION
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To resolve this problem:
- Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
- Locate the Security_HKLM_only value in the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
- On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
- Quit Registry Editor.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit version 4.01, 5.01 and 5.5.
