SYMPTOMS

The Windows 2000 Support Tools help support personnel and network administrators to manage their networks and troubleshoot problems. Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) includes updates for several of the Support Tools. The tools that have been updated include:

Netdom.exe
Nltest.exe
Dnscmd.exe
Netdiag.exe
Dcdiag.exe
Dfsutil.exe


RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.

The Support Tools are not automatically installed when you install SP2. Windows 2000 Datacenter Server customers should consult with their OEM for the updated Support Tools.

The updated tools are available in the Support\Tools\Support.cab file on the Windows 2000 SP2 CD-ROM. They are also available for download from the Microsoft Web site at:

The Windows 2000 Support Tools Help file (W2rksupp.chm), which is located in the Support Tools .cab file, provides a description of each file and its associated syntax, sample output, and notes. Refer to this Help file for specific usage information for these tools. Additional help is available by typing toolname /help at a command prompt.
