SYMPTOMS
If you delete cached files on the client computer, they may be restored after the next scheduled synchronization if the files were deleted from the server.
CAUSE
When you perform a manual synchronization, Windows gives you the option to either delete the file or copy the file to the server. When a scheduled synchronization takes place, Windows uses the most conservative option and replaces the file on the server.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.

After you install this hotfix, Windows does not replace unmodified local files that were deleted from the server during a scheduled synchronization. If the files were modified locally and deleted from the server, the modified local copy is placed on the server during the next scheduled synchronization.
