SYMPTOMS
When you run a COM+ application on a dual processor computer, the RPCSS layer may stop responding (crash). This problem occurs on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 or earlier.
CAUSE
Internally, a numeric data type is used within this section of RPCSS code, which is subject to overflow on a dual processor computer.
RESOLUTION

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
