Article ID: 290013

Article Last Modified on 9/27/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q290013

SYMPTOMS

If you create contacts that reference a personal Address Book (PAB) entry in Outlook 2000, after you upgrade to Outlook 2002 and convert all your PAB entries to contacts, the contacts that referenced a PAB entry no longer work.

Opening the contact and double-clicking the e-mail address displays the following error message:

The name or distribution list has been deleted and is no longer a valid Address Book entry. The item could not be found.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the personal Address Book migrates to Outlook 2002 but is no longer configured as an address book.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, configure Outlook 2002 to use the personal Address Book:

  1. Search your hard disk for your personal Address Book (*.pab) file, and then write down the path and file name.
  2. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
  3. Click Add a new directory or address book, and then click Next.
  4. Click Additional Address Books, and then click Next.
  5. Click Personal Address Book, and then click Next.
  6. Click Browse, and then go to the path you wrote down. Click the appropriate .pab file, click Open, and then click OK.
  7. Restart Outlook.
