SYMPTOMS
When a NetBT device that is bound to a cluster IP address fails due to lack of resources, removing and replacing the device and then attempting to bring the cluster IP address back online causes a sharing violation. An error message states that there is already a NetBT device bound to that cluster IP address.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when a cluster IP address is prevented from coming online. The NetBT device failure prevents the IP address resource code from checking to see whether the NetBT device that the IP address is bound to is still valid. When the check is not successful, the IP address resource code does not delete the instance of the NetBT device, which remains bound to the cluster IP address. This produces a sharing violation that prevents the cluster IP address from coming back online.
RESOLUTION

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
