SYMPTOMS
When you install a program that extends the Active Directory schema, for example Microsoft Exchange Server, after a time the following error messages may appear:
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when Exchange Server extends the schema again to include a new attribute in the partial attribute set and forces full synchronizations of large sites and domains. After several days, replication may not have correctly synched. The periodic synchronization load can be exorbitant for the following reasons:
- Replication intervals are too low for the number of sites and domains, preventing other inbound replications
- There are many route-around connections due to "schema mismatch" failures on links that had not been retried since the schema was extended
