SYMPTOMS
When you start DNS Server service, you may receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when all of the following are true:
- All Active Directory integrated forward or reverse lookup zones are changed to standard primary or secondary zones.
- At least one zone has a space character in its zone file name.
- The DNS server is configured to boot from file.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, rename all zone files so that there are no spaces in the file names.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
