SYMPTOMS

When you use Sony 8mm AIT2 media in an AIT tape drive, Removable Storage Manager (RSM) in Windows 2000 may not display the media type or it may display the media type incorrectly.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur because Sony introduced new tape cartridges. These cartridges are not currently identified correctly by RSM.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
