Mailboxes Not Accessible After Upgrade to Exchange 2000

Article ID: 288840

Article Last Modified on 2/20/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q288840

SYMPTOMS

If you upgrade from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange 2000 Server, the Mailbox table may not be upgraded correctly, which may result in "orphaned" mailboxes. Users cannot log into such mailboxes. Also, mailbox cleanup may not work.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the Admin given name property is not set during the upgrade to Exchange 2000. Although this property is not required during the upgrade and can be set to NULL to gain access to the mailbox, the logon process in Exchange 2000 errors out if this property is not availble.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
