XADM: 1450 Error When Jet Attempts to Extend Log File

Article ID: 287935

Article Last Modified on 2/20/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q287935

SYMPTOMS

The Exchange 2000 Jet engine may log 1450 errors when it attempts to extend a log file.

CAUSE

Microsoft Windows 2000 may run out of kernel resources (PTEs).

NOTE: Having the /3GB switch on makes this considerably more likely.

Windows 2000 fails large I/Os because it cannot allocate enough memory in the kernel. This affects all processes on the server. When Jet encounters these errors, it reduces the size of its I/Os down to as low as 4 kilobytes (KB). Jet often uses 1 megabyte (MB) I/Os because that is the fastest way to extend a file under Windows.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
