WD2002: Incorrect Number of Misspelled Words When You Check Spelling Programmatically

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to check the spelling of your Word document using a Visual Basic for Applications macro, Word may indicate an incorrect number of misspelled words.


For more information about an example macro to check the spelling of your Word document, in the Visual Basic Editor, click Microsoft Visual Basic Help on the Help menu, type spellingerrors in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.


CAUSE

This problem can occur if the misspelled word or words contain characters that are not letters; for example, an asterisk (*), a less-than sign (<), or a greater-than sign (>).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 1.
