WD2000: Created and Modified Properties Different After First Save of Document

Article ID: 285995

Article Last Modified on 2/11/2001

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Word 2000 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q285995

SYMPTOMS

When you view the properties of a document that you saved for the first time, you may expect the Created and Modified properties to be the same. However, the Created and Modified properties are slightly different.

NOTE: To view the Created and Modified properties of a Word document, click Properties on the File menu, and then view the General tab.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because when you work with a document in Microsoft Word, changes are initially entered into a temporary file. When you save the file, the Created property retains the date and time that the temporary file was created (not when the file was initially modified/saved).
