SYMPTOMS

When you try to log on to America Online (AOL) on a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, after having previously disconnected from AOL and then restarted the computer, you may receive the following error message:

The system cannot log you on now, because the domain spyedit-server is not available.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you disconnect from AOL through an Internet connection while AOL is still trying to update Internet Explorer. The disconnection causes a failure during the update.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, run a repair from the Windows 2000 Professional CD-ROM:

  1. Insert the Windows 2000 Professional CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Install, and then click Repair.
