SYMPTOMS
When you assign a task that contains a user-defined Date/Time field, the value of the field is lost when the task is assigned to someone else.
WORKAROUND
Instead of using a field of type Date/Time, use a Text field to store the date value. The disadvantage to this approach is that when your are using an Outlook view, you cannot effectively sort the items in the folder by the user-defined field if the dates are stored in a field of type Text.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
MORE INFORMATION
After the task has been assigned, you can enter a date into the custom date field, and the date will be preserved if you save the task. However, if you copy or move the task, then the field value will once again be lost.
This problem does not occur if you are using a meeting request with a user-defined Date field.
