Error Message Occurs When Applying Checked Build Versions of Windows NT 4.0 SP5 and SP6a

SYMPTOMS

When you apply the checked build version of Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5 (SP5) or Service Pack 6a (SP6) to Small Business Server 4.5, you may receive the following error message:

Service Pack Setup Error: Service Pack Setup cannot update a checked (debug) system with a free (retail) version of the Service Pack, or vice-versa.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download and apply the Standard Encryption or High Encryption version of the service pack depending on the system requirements.
