SYMPTOMS

On a Microsoft Windows Millennium end-user client computer, you receive the following error message when you try to add or edit a record in the offline publication:

Your changes were not saved. The form may contain missing or invalid information. Cannot load the DLL modsink.dll, or one of the DLLs it references. Reason: 31(A device attached to the system is not functioning.).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Developer Service Pack 2 (SP-2).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Developer SP-2.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior


  1. Set up a Workflow Designer for SQL Server with SQL Server 7, SQL Server SP2, and Microsoft Office 2000 Developer version 9.5.
  2. Setup a Workflow Designer end-user client computer with Microsoft Windows Millennium, MSDE, MSDE SP2, Office 2000 Web Components, Office 2000, and Microsoft Office 2000 Developer version 9.5 end-user client tools.
  3. With any workflow solution, create an offline publication.
  4. On the end-user client computer, take the solution offline.
  5. On the end-user client computer, try to add or edit a record. Then, click Save on the File menu. Note that you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
