SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to log on to your mailbox using Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), you may receive the following error message:
Http://1.1 401 Unauthorized.
However, MAPI clients can access the same mailboxes without experiencing difficulties.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) address for your users does not match the SMTP address on the M: drive. To find this alias, open the M: drive in My Computer or Windows Explorer and note the name of the folder that is displayed there. The name of that folder is the alias of the M: drive.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, add the M: drive SMTP address as a secondary SMTP address to the Domain Recipient Policy. To do so, follow these steps:
- Start Exchange System Manager.
- Navigate to the Recipients Policies container under Recipients Group.
- Right-click Domain Policy, and then click Properties.
- On the E-mail Addresses tab, click New.
Note: If the New button is not active, click the General tab, and then click the E-mail Addresses tab to activate the New button.
- In the New E-mail Address dialog box, click SMTP address, and then click OK.
- Add the address for the M: drive (for example @Domain.Name.Com), and then click OK.
- Click OK to exit the Domain Policy Properties page.
- Navigate to the Recipients Update Services container.
- Right-click Domain Recipients Update Service, and then click Update Now.
