SUMMARY

This article describes how to set up the Microsoft Windows Message Queuing service for Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server.

The Message Queuing service handles message delivery between the Message Processor and the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) connector for Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server push notification

The Message Queuing service is installed on the server that is running Mobile Information Server but does not have to be installed on the server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server for communications. Communications between Exchange Server and Mobile Information Server for push notification is completed through SMTP.

NOTE: To install the Message Queuing service on a server, you must make sure that the server is part of the domain (either a member server or a domain controller).

NOTE: The Message Queuing service must be installed and configured before you install Mobile Information Server.

MORE INFORMATION

To install the Message Queuing service on a domain controller, follow these steps:

  1. Log on to a domain controller by using a user account with domain administrator credentials.
  2. In Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs, and then click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. Click to select the Message Queuing Services check box, and then click Next.
  4. Click Message Queuing Server. Make sure that you do not enable routing, and then click Next.
  5. Click No, do not change the permissions, and then click Next to complete the installation.

To install the Message Queuing service on a member server, follow these steps:

  1. Log on to a member server by using a user account with domain administrator credentials. Make sure that you do not log on locally, but that you log on as a authenticated domain user.
  2. In Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs, and then click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. Click to select the Message Queuing Services check box, and then click Next.
  4. Click Message Queuing Server. Make sure that you do not enable routing and that the Manually select access mode to AD check box is not selected, and then click Next.

Notice that the wizard searches the Active Directory (AD) for other Message Queuing service servers and then completes the installation.

When the Message Queuing service is installed, you must reapply all of the service packs and the hotfixes to the computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000.

Your Message Queuing service must have a valid security certificate in the domain. To verify your security certificate, follow these steps:

  1. Log on as a domain administrator to the local console of the Message Queuing service server in the domain.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Message Queuing.
  4. Click the Security tab, and then click View all registered certificates in Active Directory. Your server should be listed in the following format:

    Domain\User_Name, Server_Name

If you receive an error message when you click View all registered certificates in Active Directory, or if your server is not listed, you do not have a valid certificate in Active Directory.

To resolve this problem, you must remove and then add the Message Queuing service onto the server. Alternatively, you can click the register certificates in Active Directory.
