SYMPTOMS

The Windows 2000-based certificate server does not comply with the Data-Over-Cable Service Interface Specifications specification p.100. For more information about this specification, visit the following CableLabs Web site:

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English-language version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

   Date       Time     Version         Size     File name
   ------------------------------------------------------
   2/5/2001   07:00p   5.0.2195.3225   117008   Certsrv.exe
                


After you apply this hotfix, the request ID is written as the most significant byte. This ensures that the serial numbers increase in order.

To enable the changed behavior, use the following command:

certutil -setreg ca\HighSerial 1
restart server


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
