XADM: Shared Drive M No Longer Shared Out After Server Restart

SYMPTOMS

If you share any installable file system (IFS) volumes or folders (drive M by default), these shares may not reappear after you restart your Exchange 2000 Server computer.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because after an Exchange 2000 server that has folders in the Exchange installable file system (ExIFS) shared out is restarted, these folders are not shared out again because of problems with service dependencies. Microsoft Windows 2000 Server attempts to create the shares as the server service is starting. At this time, the Exchange 2000 information store is not started and drive M is not available. As a result, the share is not created.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 1.
