SUMMARY
The Find feature has been improved in Microsoft Office Visio to allow searching within custom properties, shape names, and user-defined cells in addition to shape text.

The Find dialog box contains four new check boxes for selecting where to search for text in a particular shape:
- Shape text
- Custom Property (in Visio 2003) Shape Data (in Visio 2007)
- Shape name
- User-defined cell
You can choose any combination of these four search criteria. The Find Next button is unavailable unless at least one of the Search in check boxes is checked.
The Find dialog box also contains a dynamically updated Found in text field. When a match is found, the Found in box indicates the location of the found text. If a match is found in a custom property or a user-defined cell, the Found in box contains the custom property name or user-defined cell name in addition to the site location.
Additional points about the Find feature
- When custom properties are being searched, only custom properties marked as visible are searched. Custom properties marked as hidden are not searched for.
- When the shape name is being searched, only the first occurrence of the matching text within the name is indicated.
- When the custom properties or user-defined cells are being searched, only the first occurrence of the matching text within each custom property or user-defined cell is indicated.
- The Value in custom properties is searched for. If a match is found, the text in the Label cell will be displayed in the Found in box.
- Custom properties and user-defined cells for pages are not searched.
