SYMPTOMS

When you open a message that you dragged from Microsoft Outlook to your desktop, you may receive one of the following error messages:

For Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

Outlook.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x02d912d7" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".

For Microsoft Windows NT Workstation

Dr. Watson for Windows NT
An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.
outlook.exe
Exception: access violation (0xc0000005), Address: 0x100012d7

For Microsoft Windows 95

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

OUTLOOK caused an invalid page fault in module AIHOOK.DLL at 0137:100012d7.

For Microsoft Windows 98

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

OUTLOOK caused an invalid page fault in module AIHOOK.DLL at 0167:100012d7.

For Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)

Outlook has caused an error in AIHOOK.DLL. Outlook will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because you are running Microsoft Outlook 2000 and have Quick View Plus version 6.x installed. This behavior also occurs if Quick View Plus is installed with Microsoft Office Outlook 2003.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, remove the Quick View Plus Outlook AutoZip Extension option from the list of add-ins in Outlook. To do this:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab.
  2. Click Advanced Options, and then click Add-in Manager.
  3. In the Add-in Manager dialog box, click to clear the Quick View Plus Outlook AutoZip Extension check box.
  4. Click OK three times.
  5. Restart Outlook.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, open the message in Outlook. You can view the message in the Outlook Preview Pane.
