APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition

This article was previously published under Q280122

SYMPTOMS

When you use several of the available commands that are included in the Dsstore tool (Dsstore.exe), such as

dsstore DC=MyDomain,DC=com -addcrl "My Certificate Authority.crl" "My Certificate Authority" MyDomain-DC-01

-or-

dsstore.exe -display DC=MyDomain,DC=com

You may receive the following error messages after a few seconds:

DsGetDCName failed! - rc=1355 GLE - 3e5
DsGetDCName failed! - rc=1355 GLE - 3e5

CAUSE

This problem can occur when the NetBIOS domain name does not match the leftmost component of the fully-qualified lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP) name of the domain. For example:

DNS Domain Name: MyDomain.com
LDAP Domain Name: DC=MyDomain,DC=com
NetBIOS Domain Name: MyDom

This is a valid scenario and that you can configure when you promote the first domain controller in a domain.
