SYMPTOMS

When you turn on directory service logging for directory access, event 1174 may be logged:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: NTDS General
Event Category: Directory Access
Event ID: 1174
Date: 11/3/2000
Time: 3:13:00 PM
User: Everyone
Computer: computername
Description:
A privileged operation (rights required = 0x) was successfully performed on object %2.

The %2 tag should contain the distinguished name of the object that is being accessed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
