Error Message When you Delete Files in a My Documents Folder That Is Redirected to a Netware Server

Article ID: 278885

Article Last Modified on 2/21/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition

This article was previously published under Q278885

SYMPTOMS

When you redirect the My Documents folder to a Netware server and then try to delete a file in the My Documents folder, you may receive the following error message after you confirm that you want the file to be sent to the Recycle Bin:

Cannot Delete filename: Cannot find the specified file
Make sure you specify the correct path and filename

The file is deleted correctly; if you refresh the view, the file is no longer in the folder.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because the shell determines whether the file can be deleted before the file is deleted. When the file is in the My Documents folder on a Netware server, the shell deletes the file.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Note that this problem occurs only when the My Documents folder is on a Netware server. This problem does not occur when you open a UNC window to a Netware server.
