To uninstall Windows Media Player, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the Windows Media Player folder, and then drag it to the Trash.
  2. Open the "System Folder: Preferences" folder.
  3. Locate the Windows Media Player Prefs file, and then drag it to the Trash.
  4. Open the "System Folder: Extensions" folder.
  5. Locate the following files, and then drag them to the Trash:

    Voxware Sound Component v1.5
    Windows Media Player.shlb

    In addition, if any of the following extensions exist in the Extensions folder, drag them to the Trash:

    Acelp.net Decoder 05.0 kbps
    Acelp.net Decoder 06.5 kbps
    Acelp.net Decoder 08.5 kbps
    Acelp.net Decoder 16.0 kbps
    Mpeg Layer-3 Audio
    MPG4
    VivoActive G723 Decoder
    VivoActive Video Decoder

  6. Locate and open the Plug-ins folders in the folders that contain Web browsers. These folder names are generally Internet Explorer 5, Internet Explorer 4.5 Folder, or Netscape Communicator Folder. Delete the following items from these folders:

    DRM Plugin (alias)
    Windows Media Plugin (alias)
    WindowsMediaPlugin.jar
