SYMPTOMS
When you upgrade to Microsoft Windows 2000 from a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows98, or Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition and there are multiple users sharing a single user mode configuration with Outlook 2002 installed, the other users configuration and settings appear to have been lost.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the existing operating system user profile settings are transferred to the new operating system during the Windows 2000 Setup. If you were in single user mode before you installed Windows 2000, you are in that same mode after the upgrade.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, select one user profile during the final step of Windows 2000 Setup as the default profile and enable the Prompt for a Profile to be used option in Outlook 2002. To do this:
- Click on Start, point to settings Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Mail or the Mail and Fax icon.
- Click the Show Profiles button.
- Click Prompt for a profile to be used option.
If you want to use individual user profiles in Windows 2000, migrate from single user mode to multi user mode, which would require you to rebuild the individual configurations in each profile.
