SYMPTOMS
After you install IBM ViaVoice 98 on a Windows 2000-based computer or if you upgrade from Microsoft Windows 98 with ViaVoice 98 installed, you may receive the following error message when you attempt to open Control Panel:
CAUSE
ViaVoice 98 is not compatible with Windows 2000.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, contact IBM Technical Support to inquire about a possible updated version of ViaVoice that is compatible with Windows 2000.
To work around this behavior:
- Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
- In the Named box, type setnote.cpl, and then click Search Now.
- If the file is displayed as Setnote.cpl, proceed to step 4. If the file is displayed as Setnote in the list of found files, follow these steps before you proceed to step 4:
- Double-click My Computer.
- On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
- Click the View tab.
- Click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK. The file is displayed as Setnote.cpl in the list of found files.
- In the list of found files, right-click the Setnote.cpl file, click Rename, and then rename the file to Setnote.bak.
- Close the Search Results dialog box.
You can now open Control Panel.
