SYMPTOMS

When you use Outlook Integrated File Management (IFM), the views may corrupt and Outlook may stop responding.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the Views.dat file reaches a size between 175 and 220 kilobytes (KB).

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Outlook 2000 service release that contains this hotfix.

The following are the symptoms of the view corruption:

  • Details is not set as the default view for folders.
  • The views that you set for folders have been changed to other views.
  • Outlook stops responding.
