Error Message Reports STOP 0x000000D1 in Serial.sys When Serial Device or Driver Verifier Is in Use

SYMPTOMS

When you use a serial device or run the Driver Verifier tool on a Windows 2000-based system, a STOP 0x00000D1 error in the Serial.sys driver may occur.


CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Windows 2000 does not check the status of the current power input/output request packet (IRP) and may move on to the next power IRP while the current IRP is still pending.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
