SYMPTOMS
After you create a Microsoft Word document and you merge the document with a data source, there is no way to find the full path to the data source that you are using after you open the data source. The only information that is on the Mail Merge pane is the file name of the data source.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Word is designed to show the file name of the Mail Merge data source in the Mail Merge pane, not the entire path to the data source.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, you can view the path to the data source in System Information. To view the path to the data source, follow these steps:
- On the Help menu, click About Microsoft Word.
- In the About Microsoft Word dialog box, click System Info.
- In the Tree pane, expand (click the plus sign) Office 10 Applications.
- Expand Microsoft Word 2002.
- Double-click Mail Merge.
The full path to the data source appears next to the Data source item in the right pane.
