SYMPTOMS

If you use Outlook 2000 to send a message that is marked with a read receipt through Microsoft Exchange Server to a foreign X.400 message transfer agent (MTA), and the foreign MTA autoforwards the message to another recipient, you may receive the following a non-read report (message class Report.IPM.Note.IPNNRN) in Outlook:

Your message

To: 'recipient'
Subject: 'subject'
Sent: dd/mm/yy hh:mm

was deleted without being read on dd/mm/yy hh:mm.

This non-read report does not provide any indication that the message was autoforwarded to another recipient.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Outlook incorrectly interprets the properties on the non-read report.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Outlook 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

NOTE: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The typical support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

The English-language version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

File name Size Date Time Version
   ------------------------------------------------------------
   Outllib.dll 5,308,466 4/5/2000 10:24 PM 9.00.0000.4005

After you apply this fix, the following non-read report is displayed when a foreign MTA autoforwards a message to another recipient:

To: 'recipient'
Subject: 'subject'
Sent: dd/mm/yy hh:mm

was auto-forwarded on dd/mm/yy hh:mm

If there is an autoforward comment in the message, the comment is also displayed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
