SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to send Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) messages to certain domains, the attempts do not work and you receive a non-delivery report (NDR).
CAUSE
This problem occurs only when you attempt to send SMTP messages to domains in which the MX record in Domain Name System (DNS) is configured with a numeric Internet Protocol (IP) address rather than a host record.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
