Service Recovery Does Not Run Defined Program If the Program Does Not Use the System Account

SYMPTOMS

When you configure service recovery in Windows 2000 and select the Run File option, the program you select does not run if the service is defined to run on an account other than the System account.

CAUSE

Windows does not initialize a variable correctly when it spawns the process.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
