SYMPTOMS
When you use Group Policy, Application Deployment, and a Microsoft Installer (MSI) package that requires Elevated permissions, you may receive an error code 3.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when the Group Policy object that contains the Application Deployment package also contains the Elevated Permissions policy.
The Application Deployment policy is processed before the Elevated Permissions policy which can cause the application deployment to be unsuccessful.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, you must perform the following steps:
- Create a separate policy that includes the Elevated permissions with the Windows Installer setting.
- Link the preceding policy to the same location as the Application Deployment policy.
- Arrange the policies so that the policy that contains the Elevated permissions is processed before the Application Deployment policy.
