This article was previously published under Q273830

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Out Of Office Assistant to turn on an out of office notice in the Japanese version of Outlook 2000, the Shift-JIS (Japanese Industry Standards, code-set for Japanese characters) character set is sent, even though Shift-Jis is not the standard for sending Japanese on the Internet.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Outlook 2000 sets the Microsoft Windows codepage to the Internet codepage ID of an Out of Office message.

RESOLUTION

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not use the Japanese language in an Out of Office message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
