SYMPTOMS

If you have Mac OS 8.1 installed, and you click Movie Options in PowerPoint (on the Edit menu, click Preferences, and then click the General tab), PowerPoint may quit unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when you try to use the PowerPoint Movies feature under Mac OS 8.1. The PowerPoint Movies feature requires Mac OS 8.5 or later, and QuickTime 3.0 or later.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, upgrade your Macintosh to Mac OS 8.5 or later.

To temporarily work around this problem, avoid using any of the PowerPoint Movies features.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
