SYMPTOMS

When you add a CD-ROM audio track to your Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, set the track to loop until stopped, and then view the slide show, the looped CD-ROM audio track doesn't loop back to the beginning as expected after playing once.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because PowerPoint ignores the setting for looping the audio track.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, record the audio track from the CD-ROM to an embedded file in the presentation, and then set the file to play in a loop; to do so, follow these steps:

  1. On the Apple menu, click Control Panel, and then click Sound.
  2. In the Sounds dialog box, click Input in the left list box, and then click Internal CD in the Choose a device for sound input box.
  3. Click to select the Play sound through output device check box, and then close the Sound dialog box.
  4. In PowerPoint, open your presentation, and then select the slide where the sound is to be added.
  5. On the Apple menu, click Programs, click Applications, click AppleCD Audio Playerf, and then click AppleCD Audio Player.
  6. Start the CD-ROM playing on the track before the track from which you want to record the sound.
  7. Switch to PowerPoint, on the Insert menu, click Movies and Sounds, and then click Record Sound.
  8. When the AppleCD Audio Player begins playing the correct track, click Record.
  9. Click Stop after the sound is finished playing, and then click Save.
  10. Give the file a name, and then click OK.
  11. Click the sound icon, and then on the Edit menu, click Sound Object.
  12. Click to select the Loop until stopped check box, and then click OK.

NOTE: The Record Sound dialog box is modal, so you need to start running the CD-ROM audio track before opening the dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
