SYMPTOMS

After you apply Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1), Norton Antivirus version 7.0 takes a longer amount of time to scan the System32 folder than was previously used. Also, when you run System File Checker (SFC) with the /scannow switch, this takes a longer amount of time to finish than was previously needed. A side effect of this is that Winlogon.exe generates 90 percent CPU usage during the scan, and this may cause the login requests to time out.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because some verification operations are not being cached appropriately, and as a result of this, the operations are taking a longer amount of time to complete.

RESOLUTION
