SYMPTOMS
You may receive the following error during the installation of Windows Media Player 7:
CAUSE
This behavior may occur if the Msxml.dll file is damaged or missing from the Windows\System directory.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, you need to restore the Msxml.dll file from the original installation media using the System File Checker tool. To restore Msxml.dll, follow these steps:
- Extract a new version of Msxml.dll from the Windows 95, 98 or Millennium Edition CD-ROM. Instructions for this can be found in the article:

- Once the files have been extracted into the C:\Windows\System directory, follow these steps:
- From the toolbar click Start, and then click Run.
- Type regsvr32 c:\windows\system\msxml.dll, and then click OK.
- You receive a confirmation box with the following message:
DLLRegisterServer in C:\Windows\System\Msxml.dll succeeded.
