SYMPTOMS
When you use Windows Media Player 7, you may receive an error message that states that Windows Media Player 7 is not connected to a network. Or, you may receive the following error message when you try to play media from the Internet:
CAUSE
A proxy server is required, but Windows Media Player 7 does not automatically detect proxy settings or use browser proxy settings by default.
RESOLUTION
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on secure servers that prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, manually configure the proxy settings to use browser proxy settings:
- Start Windows Media Player 7.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the Network tab, click Configure.
- Click Use browser proxy settings.
- Click OK.
