If you download a recent recommended fix that is in the SMS Installer format from Microsoft, there are special considerations that you need to be aware of when you apply the fix to a computer that is running Microsoft Cluster Server.

You must perform the following steps to apply a fix to a cluster server because SMS Installer fixes are not cluster aware:
- Use Cluster Administrator to manually stop the Exchange Group on the active node.
- Apply the SMS Installer format fix on the owning node.
- Move the Exchange Group to the other node.
- Apply the SMS Installer format fix on the owning node.
- Move the Exchange Group to the node that you want to run the Exchange Group on.
- Start the Exchange Group in Cluster Administrator.
