Visio2000: Error 1417 When You Save a File

SYMPTOMS

When you save a file, you may receive the following error message:

1417 an error occurred - save - access denied

CAUSE

You receive this error message if you have IXOS installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this error, you must edit the registry as follows.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type regedit.
  3. Browse to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/IXOS/IXOS-Archive/ODMA subkey.
  4. Right-click the ODMA subkey, point to New, and then click String Value.
  5. Type IgnoredApplications, and then press ENTER.
  6. Right-click IgnoredApplications, and then click Modify.
  7. For Value Data, type Visio, and then click OK.
  8. On the Registry menu, click Exit.
  9. Restart your computer.
