SUMMARY
When you install Microsoft Office 2000, by default you also install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 (version 5.00.2314.1003). However, Microsoft recently made Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 (version 5.50.4134.600) available for installation. This article explains the steps necessary to include Internet Explorer 5.5 with the installation of Office 2000 on a computer that is using Windows 2000 Professional as the operating system.

NOTE: If you try to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 as part of your custom transform (.mst) by using step 15 in the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW) to point to the location of Internet source files, Internet Explorer 5.5 will not be installed on computers that are running Windows 2000 Professional.

To install Internet Explorer 5.5 with Office 2000 on Windows 2000, follow these steps:
- Create an administrative installation for Office 2000. (See the end of the "More Information" section for information about how to create an administrative installation.)
- Either create a local install point for the Microsoft Internet Explorer files, or download the files from the Microsoft Web site.

If you choose to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 from a local install point, you can use the Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) version 5.5. For more information about deploying Internet Explorer 5.5 with IEAK, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- On that same computer, start the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW).
- In the Open the MSI File dialog box of the Custom Installation Wizard, locate and select Data1.msi from the root of your administrative installation. Click Next.
- Continue through the Custom Installation Wizard dialog boxes until you get to the Add Installations and Run Programs dialog box. Click Add.
- In the Add\Modify Program Entry, type the following command line (where IE5_5 is the IE5.5 source file folder name). Make sure to specify a folder in the root of your Office administrative installation that contains the Internet Explorer 5.5 source files:
path\IE5_5\ie5setup.exe /Q:A /C:"ie5wzd /S:""#e"" /Q:A /R:N"
- Complete the remaining dialog boxes in the Custom Installation Wizard.
- Write down the sample command line provided in the last dialog box of the Custom Installation Wizard. You use it to run Office Setup.
NOTE: Because Internet Explorer Setup requires a restart, and this cannot occur before the completion of Office 2000 Setup, you must add the REBOOT=FORCE property to the Office 2000 Setup command line or Setup.ini file. DO NOT add this property using the Custom Installation Wizard. - Run Setup from your Office administrative installation, using the transform that you created in the Custom Installation Wizard. The following is an example command line:
x:\Setup.exe TRANSFORMS=IE55.MST /Qn+ REBOOT=FORCE
IMPORTANT: Although the "Always install with elevated privileges" system policy from the Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit is in effect when you run Setup for Office, Internet Explorer Setup will fail if a user does not have local administrative permissions. This, in turn, causes a failure in the Office Setup routine.
