SYMPTOMS
A default gateway that is received from a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server may not be added to the host's routing table and is therefore not used.
CAUSE
This problem can occur under the following circumstances:
- The Windows 2000-based host computer is multihomed (two or more network adapters)
- You configure one network adapter with a static Internet Protocol (IP) address and a static default gateway
- You configure another network adapter with the Obtain an IP address automatically option, and a DHCP server provides a default gateway
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
