SYMPTOMS

The static IP address and subnet masks that you set in the TCP/IP configuration in Network properties are stored and assigned backwards (in reverse byte order) in the Hebrew version of Windows Millennium Edition (Me).

For example, if you set an address of 192.1.1.1, the Winipcfg tool shows the IP address as 1.1.1.192 after you reboot. Similarly, a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 is treated as 0.255.255.255.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows Me service pack that contains this fix.
